Please call 217-782-0244 & 312-814-2121 and tell Gov. Quinn to sign two cannabis reform measures into law. Senate Bill 2636 would allow seizure conditions, including epilepsy, to the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program. The bill would also allow minors with epilepsy or seizure disorders to be included in the pilot program and provides the Dept. of Public Health a mechanism for adding minors with other qualifying conditions to the program.
The other measure, House Bill 5085, would allow universities to engage in industrial hemp research with the authorization of the Illinois Department of Agriculture. The researchers would not need to get DEA approval which has thwarted previous research endeavors in other states. Illinois NORML worked on both of these bills and are hoping that we can convince Gov. Quinn to sign them into law. If he does not sign them they will become law anyways but we want to show him how much support there is for reforming cannabis laws in Illinois, so please make the call today and ask him to sign these bills.
